Russian President Vladgyimir Putin has announced that the second Russian vaccine has already been approved in Russia, writes The Moscow Times. The second vaccine, called EpiVacCorona, was produced in Novosibirsk by a state institute for virology and biotechnology.

Putin said that two key people in Russia’s control of the epidemic, Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova and Anna Popova, chief of consumer protection, have also been vaccinated with the second vaccine. Golikova said that a third type of coronavirus vaccine is also expected in December.

Mass production of the first Russian coronavirus vaccine is expected to begin in the summer of 2021, the president said.

The number of coronavirus infections recorded in Russia rose 14,231 last day to 1,340,409, according to official data released Wednesday. This is a new all-time record since the start of the Covid-19 epidemic, and the daily increase has passed 14,000 for the first time. The number of active cases increased from 6,072 to 277,499. The number of fatalities increased from 239 to 23,205 and that of those recovered from the disease from 7,920 to 1,039,705. More than 51.5 million laboratory tests have been performed in the country since the outbreak began.
