The new direction of the University of Theater and Film Arts, that is, Gábor Szarka chancellor, Novák Emil Y János Zalán The vice-chancellors have issued a statement according to which the current tank society, which was announced when the blockade was introduced, is terminated today, and if it continues, the management will no longer consider it part of the SZFE, but an initiative private. As is already known to the public, the Rector General of the University of Theater and Film Arts, Emil Novák and his rector, Dr. Gábor Szarka, announced an 8-point crisis management package on October 4, 2020 with the in order to comprehensively resolve the situation around the SZFE. The students and the University Strike Committee unanimously rejected the University’s compromise offer, including the initiative for a complex dialogue, so this offer could not go into effect. After all attempts at conciliation by the University management have been rejected, we reveal:
- As the educational model called “republic of tanks” announced by the former deputy director László Upor at the opening of the school year in September 2020 has completely destroyed the internal functioning of the University and made all dialogue impossible, the management of the University of Theater and Cinema will be considered completed within 1 day, it will no longer be separated from it, it will not provide its infrastructure and financial conditions.
- If the “republic of tanks” does not cease its activities despite the current announcement, the SZFE now considers it a private initiative that operates outside the University, and as its representative considers László Upor and Mihály Csernai, representing the students, until new notice.
- In the next few days we will contact all employees, professors and students of the University by letter, so that they can make a statement about the situation and their intention to collaborate with the management of SZFE.
- The University facilities will gradually return to operating order before the announcement of the “republic of tanks”, which will be ensured by the rector of the University through the operator.
- The management of SZFE represents the value of university autonomy enshrined in the Basic Law. After the SZFE Senate resigned voluntarily and without any external coercion at the time of the change of model, with this act he himself endangered the autonomy of the University. Taking into account the principles of university autonomy enshrined in the Basic Law, we will repair the violation of autonomy by the Senate as soon as possible and we will hold elections to the Senate no later than January 30, 2021, in the name of renewal.
