High speed Budapest – Cluj: the first step has been taken

Train with Tanácsadó és Tervező Kft. And Kontúr Group Tervező, Építtető, Kivitelező Kereskedelmi Kft. They can prepare a detailed feasibility study of the Budapest-Cluj-Napoca high-speed railway line for a net amount of 750 million HUF.

The result of the public tender was announced by the contracting authority NIF Nemzeti Infrastruktúra Fejlesztő Zrt. In the EU public procurement bulletin.

The study must be developed by the winners in accordance with the methodology of the EU funding rules. The conditions are, among others, the following:

  • 250-300 kilometers long, – a railway track designed for speeds of 250-300 or 350 kilometers per hour and carrying at least 500,000 passengers per year,
  • connection to the urban public transport system of at least two cities with an average population of at least 135,000, intermodal hubs,
  • special devices for crossing rivers (Tisza, Körös, Sgamos).

NIF signed a contract with the winners on September 28.

“KÖZLEKEDÉS” Fővárosi Tervező Iroda Kft., Transinvest-Budapest Engineering, Consulting, Trade and Agency Ltd., as well as FŐMTERV Mérnöki Tervező Zrt. It also started the tender.

In March 2018, Napi.hu announced that at a meeting between Hungary’s Foreign Minister Péter Szjjártó and his Romanian counterpart, Teodor Melescanu, it was suggested that the two countries build a high-speed railway between Budapest and Cluj- Napoca.
