The first in the world, Novak Djokovic, will be the defending champion of the Spanish Rafael Nadal in the final of the men’s tournament of the French Open when he defeated the Greek Stefan Cicipas in five sets in the semifinals on Friday.

The Serbian player, who led to the 18th Grand Slam Cup, boasted a 36/1 win balance this year and suffered a single loss in the eighth final of the US

The defending World Cup champion Cicipasz’s best result to date was last year’s eighth final in Paris, and he has not lost a game since his turn from a 0-2 set deficit in the first round this year. The 33-year-old from Belgrade, who triumphed at Roland Garros in 2016, is yet to lose a set in this year’s tournament and was 3/2 against the Greek, recently beating him in the final in Dubai in February. In the first set of their sixth battle, Djokovics intercepted all five break balls from his rival, and the Greek deteriorated on important points, ultimately losing the game. In the aftermath, the 22-year-old challenger withstood the pressure to 2: 3, at which point he was unable to serve twice, which was included in his set. In the third act, Djokovics, who struck irresistibly, broke after 4: 4, but at 5: 4 lost his serve on a match ball, then the unexpectedly strong Greek broke again and embellished it 2-1 in terms of sets.

Cicipasz soon achieved five wins in a row, but the world was broken for the first time in 2: 2, from where he served lightly, while the Greek gritted his teeth, defending the break balls. In another turn, Djokovics trembled again in 4: 5, so he was able to enter the fifth set, which of the Grand Slam tournaments only ended with a shortcut at Roland Garros, but had to be won by a difference of two games.

In the final chapter, which began at 3:20 am, Cicipasz was already completely done with his strength, sometimes not even starting behind the balls, and finally knocking out in less than six minutes in four hours.

The men’s singles final between Nadal and Djokovics begins at 3pm on Sunday, with the latter winning 29-26 in a duel between the two stars.
