The National Council of Judges (OBT) does not support András Zsolt Varga as president of the Curia. Members of the OBT listened to the candidate on Friday and asked him questions, and although they recognize the merits of Zsolt András Varga in the field of science, his experience as a constitutional judge and deputy chief prosecutor, as well as his personal qualities and training,

“It cannot be inferred from the fact that the candidate has not previously performed any judicial activity in the judicial system, has no experience in the courtroom, and has no practical background in litigation and judicial administration.”

Parliament will decide on the proposal of the Head of State János Áder by secret ballot.

The statement recalls that since the regime change, only one person who previously served as a judge for a longer or shorter period has held the position of President of the Supreme Court or of the Curia.

In the opinion vote of the National Council of the Judiciary, a member of the council supported the appointment of Zsolt András Varga as president of the Curia, 13 members without votes or abstentions.
