Is Hungary prepared to be excluded from the European Union recovery fund due to criticism of the rule of law? – Péter Szijjártó received this question at the Globsec Security Policy Forum in Bratislava. At the event, a round table was held with the ministers of the V4 countries, and the moderator addressed the issue that now most concerns the European public. Yesterday, the European Parliament also voted in favor of a proposal that would subject the payment of EU money to the rule of law. The resolution, which was approved by 521 votes to 152 and 21 abstentions, aims to regulate the eastern member states, especially Poland and Hungary. Prime Minister Viktor Orbán spoke last week that the Hungarian government could give up six billion euros in grants and another 10 billion euros in loans from the NextGenEU recovery fund.
Although there was no clear answer to the question posed at the Bratislava Globsec, the Hungarian Foreign Minister seized the opportunity to attack the European Union for a long time. As it was told,
We have no objection to the rule of law, but we do have to be blackmailed into using it.
Péter Szijjártó added that the reports attacking Hungary are based on lies and unbalanced and biased criticism.
How is it possible that, prior to reporting, the views of the main opposition media and anti-government NGOs are generally sought?
– added the Hungarian Foreign Minister. He also said that the European Union subsidies are not grants, Hungary has opened its markets to Western European companies as a condition of entering the EU. The relationship between the European Union and Hungary is regulated by treaties, Péter Szijjártó said that the government is acting accordingly.

The moderator made another timid attempt with his question about the recovery fund, referring for the second time to the previous announcement by Viktor Orbán. In this regard, Péter Szijjártó replied that the Orbán government was open to a debate based on facts,
however, he does not know what to do with the threat and blackmail.
The recurring theme of the annual Globsec Security Policy Forum in Bratislava is the relationship between Hungary and the Western world. Last year, in a panel discussion, historian Timothy Garton Ash attacked Péter Szijjártó for the Central European University (CEU), then British intellectuals said the Hungarian government had forcibly expelled the university. Péter Szijjártó claimed that it is disrespectful to spread lies about a country. – Please finish this. The CEU is in Budapest, Szijjártó told Garton Ash last year.
