Due to the lex CEU, Babylab, one of the best child psychology research centers in the world, is leaving Hungary, writes Népszava. The institute was established by psychologists Gergely Csibra and György Gergely in 2008 and has been officially part of the Central European University (CEU) since 2010. Scientists from dozens of countries around the world are currently investigating them. Seven have doctorates from Harvard and are primarily studying child and childhood thinking development.
An important part of our job is to provide doctoral training to our students, who are no longer able to enroll in the Budapest CEU due to the law. So we go where the university can admit them, that is, Vienna. The other departments are already in Vienna, where the new academic year has started. – said Gergely Csibra about the future of the research center. According to the founder, “Babylab is second in the world in its field after Harvard” and is without doubt one of the most equipped baby laboratories in Europe. Hundreds of researchers from different parts of the world attended its annual conference.
The CEU was more recently criticized by Justice Minister Judit Varga for not giving the newspaper real knowledge. The document uses the Babylab example to show why the minister’s claim is false.
