The travel agency gave an incredible explanation as to why the tour guides in Budapest were not supported.

The Hungarian Tourism Agency did not provide state support to tour guides in Budapest because it was assumed that tourism in the capital would recover as soon as possible, as demonstrated by the recently launched new website of MTÜ. Under the Kisfaludy Development Program, rural tour guides could apply for a one-time grant, the budget was HUF 300 million.

In the FAQ section, the travel agency answered the question “why can’t tour guides in Budapest apply?”:

In the post-COVID period, based on the data known so far on the resumption of domestic and inbound tourism, it appears that Budapest’s tourist traffic data will be the first to regenerate and show an increasing trend again. The occupancy forecasts suggest that Budapest tour guides will soon be able to return to work, which will also provide them with income, but with rural tour guides in a more difficult situation.

It is not known when and on what basis the MTÜ reached this conclusion, but it must have been very responsible. While rural tourism broke records in the summer, tourism in the capital practically stopped. MTÜ herself wrote that in July it chose 1.4 million rural accommodations out of 1.4 million guests who came to Hungary.

In September, the Prime Minister also spoke about the biggest problem with tourism in Budapest, after the capital is chosen mainly as a destination by foreigners, who are now unable to come to Hungary due to the new border closure. He is responsible for tourism, festivals and the image of the capital. Csaba Faix In a recent interview with 24.hu, he said that he would like tourism companies in the capital to be able to apply to the Kisfaludy program announced by the government.

because it is currently not available to the people of Budapest, so it is not fair. It is not fair that a guide in Kaposvár can apply for state aid, but not in Budapest.
