The consumer protection inspection of electric scooters and hoverboards ended with a devastating result: only 2 of the 14 products proved to be reliable, the rest shake, ignite or break.

The Ministry of Innovation and Technology inspected a total of 14 electric scooters and hoverboards.

Six electric scooters, eight hoverboards and their battery chargers were inspected to filter dangerous goods and prevent accidents.

Due to its injury-prone design, four electronic rollers and each hoverboard failed inspection. Of the last Two chargers have also been found to cause electric shocks.

Nikoletta Keszthelyi, Undersecretary of State for Consumer Protection, said: “It is becoming increasingly popular with young people. Laboratory tests of electric scooters and hoverboards have shown twelve of the fourteen products to be risky. The consumer protection authority took immediate action, banning the distribution of vehicles. High-risk products are being recalled. “

A common flaw in each of the hoverboards was that the internal cables passed through sharp, burr-like moving parts that could damage them and cause an internal short circuit. Therefore, balanced two-wheelers can stop while driving, causing bruising, limb fractures, and other injuries.

Several of the products examined were blamed for improper and accident-prone structural designs. Due to insufficient material thickness the roller shaft is broken, the handlebar shaft has come off due to lack of fixation. The experts also found an electric scooter whose front wheel was not secured from loosening, and its handle did not prevent the hand from slipping.

Some vehicle batteries lack a temperature monitoring device that would prevent overheating, ignition during use or charging. Some of the chargers tested had too thin a mains cable and did not have adequate insulation. In some cases, the power plug was smaller than specified and these deficiencies can lead to electric shock.
