An infantry shovel attacked a man wearing military clothing on a Jewish student outside a synagogue in Hamburg on Sunday afternoon.

The victim of the anti-Semitic attack was taken to hospital with a serious head injury. The attacker was intercepted by the synagogue’s community security service.

A 29-year-old German man wearing a uniform similar to that of the German Army (Bundeswehr) was attacked by Hamburg police on Sunday night, who attacked a 26-year-old man in front of a local Jewish community church with a folding shovel.

The incident took place near the anniversary of the last serious anti-Semitic crime in Germany, the armed attack on the Halle synagogue last October. They added that the attacker’s clothing also evokes the Halle case. An anti-Jewish crime was committed on October 9, 2019 in Halle. The attacker, according to authorities, attempted to enter the synagogue, which housed between 70 and 80 believers, for a far-right anti-Semitic motive. After the failed attack, he shot a young woman from behind on the street, then drove to a nearby Turkish buffet where he shot a man and fled.
