A man dressed in military clothing attacked a Jewish student in front of a synagogue in Hamburg on Sunday afternoon with an infantry shovel, the German newspaper Süddeutsche Zeitung (SZ) reported on its news portal.

According to the national newspaper’s investigation team, which cooperated with two regional public service media companies, Norddeutscher Rundfunk (NDR) and Westdeutscher Rundfunk (WDR), the victim of the apparently anti-Semitic attack was taken to hospital with a serious injury in head. The attacker was intercepted by the synagogue’s community security service.

A 29-year-old German man wearing a uniform similar to that of the German Army (Bundeswehr) was attacked by Hamburg police on Sunday night, attacking a 26-year-old man with a folding shovel in front of a Jewish community church local (Hohe Weide Synagogue). News portals quoting a police spokesperson wrote that the attacker was one origin of Kazakhstanon par with German citizen. His questioning is difficult because he is so confused. A note with a swastika was found in his pocket.

In a report from the SZ, the NDR and the WDR, he noted that the incident took place near the anniversary of the last serious anti-Semitic crime in Germany, the armed attack on the Halle synagogue last October. They added that the attacker’s clothing also evokes the Halle case.

An anti-Jewish crime was committed on October 9, 2019 in Halle. The attacker, according to authorities, tried to enter the synagogue, which housed 70-80 believers, for a far-right anti-Semitic motive, on the occasion of the main Jewish religious holiday, the good yoke, the Day of Atonement. The German wanted to mimic similar acts of terrorism in the past and encourage others to follow suit, so he announced his intention and posted a proclamation on the internet before the attack. He was unable to pass through the doors of the synagogue in the provincial city of Saxony-Anhalt, nor did he enter the cemetery adjoining the building. After the unsuccessful attack, he shot a young woman from behind on the street who was walking there, then drove his car to a nearby Turkish buffet where he shot a man and fled.

During the escape, he became involved in a shootout with the police and was injured. He began shooting again in a nearby town, wounding two people, leaving his car behind and robbing a taxi. He was finally captured about 30 miles from Halle after driving a truck.
