24.hu wrote about the case for the first time. Last year, the former Deputy Director General of Magyar Televízió and his wife revealed that they had acquired a 60-square-meter, two-room property on Vienna’s Gate Square in a listed building, which had been renovated by the District I municipality a few years ago. They pay a profitable rent for the apartment, 39 thousand florins per month.

From the contracts requested from the district, it turned out that the Rákays gave a one-bedroom apartment on the ground floor of 24 square meters in exchange for the castle apartment on the VIII. Plaza del Calvario neighborhood. According to the advertisements of the most important real estate portals, the value of a flat in Józsefváros may be a fraction of the area of Vienna’s Gate Square. But this is not the only unusual circumstance, but also the fact that there was a lot of movement in the title to the exchange apartment in Calvary Square at the time of the exchange transaction.

The cadastral document revealed:

  • Philip Rákay’s wife bought the apartment in Józsefváros in November 2018, and nine days later signed an exchange agreement with the tenant of the property in Vienna Gate Square, according to which VIII. The ownership of the district passed to the tenant of the castle.
  • However, the apartment was not kept for long by its new owner, who sold the property in Józsefváros 13 days after the registration of his property, that is, to the person from whom the Rákays had bought it not long ago.

The mayor of Budapest Márta V. Naszályi told RTL: there will be an investigation. We have already reviewed the lease for all of our existing apartments, the entire file. The entire stack has already undergone a preliminary examination. The files that were in doubt were put aside for further investigation and we started processing them well.
