Specialists already know much more about the virus, and those who are now hospitalized for a coronavirus infection have a much better chance than at the beginning of the epidemic, when the pathogen itself was unknown, the national medical director said on Saturday.
According to Cecília Müller, the epidemic will have to live together for a few more good months and, according to the latest indications from the World Health Organization (WHO), it could last until next summer. She added that bringing a safe and appropriate vaccine to market would go a long way and significantly affect the course of the epidemic around the world. Until then, however, they try to prevent natural infection.
He also noted that a quarter of new infections come from the 20-29 age group, but there is also an upward trend in the upper and lower age groups.
Cecília Müller rated the wastewater inheritance test as a good predictor. She put it this way: Data from the last few weeks also shows that there is a correlation between the number of new infections and the concentration of hereditary material in the wastewater in the previous 6-10 days. Currently, this trend is growing more in western Hungary, he said.
According to the information of the national chief physician, severe and moderate patients who need hospital care are concentrated in places of care where all the conditions – physical equipment, ventilators, drugs – exist for their recovery. He stressed that personal conditions are provided by command in case of a growing number of patients.
There are currently 41 institutions designated to serve patients
Cecília Müller said. The national medical director also spoke about drug treatment with favipiravir, which, if started in time, has important positive effects: the condition of a moderate patient does not worsen any further.
Cecília Müller recommended the influenza vaccine for people over 60 and chronic patients, which the government made free for all. She stressed that this does not protect against the coronavirus, but both viruses also attack the lungs and respiratory system. If people can protect themselves from at least one, it is imperative to do so, because if both viruses are attacked at the same time, the risk of complications and severe runoff is much higher, the national medical director said.
High blood pressure alone is a risk factor for coronavirus infection, the national medical director drew attention. He noted that the course of the disease is much more severe in people with high blood pressure.
There were a lot of questions in the spring that you didn’t know the answer to, but now there is much more information and experience, so whoever comes to the hospital now has a much better chance.
highlighted the national medical director.
