Among European countries, Montenegro has the highest number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants: 1,699, said the country’s epidemiological institute.

Authorities noted that even though Montenegro was able to call itself a coronavirus-free zone for 42 days in early summer, it was among the worst-off countries in the fall. Due to poor indicators, the government closed restaurants in the worst-hit cities and introduced a nightly curfew, with the prospect of extending the restrictions across the country if the situation continues to improve.

Among European countries, the coronavirus appeared in Montenegro no later than March 17 (schools were closed in Hungary a day earlier). Then, on June 2, the government announced that since no new cases had been registered for almost a month, the epidemic was over (by then, only 324 infected people had been identified).

The virus reappeared in mid-June in the 620,000 Adriatic coastal states, and now from Friday to Saturday, another 130 cases have increased the number of infections to more than 11,000, and now 172 have died from the disease.
