This time one of Paulo Coelho’s works was the victim, specifically his book was burned.

It seems like it’s such a “book destroying” week. While in Hungary, Dora Dúró, a member of the Our Country movement, dropped a book of stories for her to grind, in Brazil she burns the books of Paulo Coelho, Bolsonaro supporters.

Coelho himself has published a video of retirees tearing the pages out of one of his books and throwing them into the fire. On Facebook, the world-famous author wrote: “Bolsonaro supporters are burning my books because I said we should first feed the Brazilian people before we can export food. The number of people in Brazil for whom BASIC CARE is not available has already reached 10.3 million. In 2013, that figure was 7.2 million (IBGE). It all reminds me of May 10, 1933, when the Nazis burned books by authors who spoke out against Hitler. “

Later, the Brazilian Academy of Fiction (of which Coelho is a member) also issued a statement condemning the content of a video circulating on social media: the academy said that throwing books into the fire is a symbol of horror and evokes dark times.
