We got the upper hand with Nikolics’ goal in the first few minutes, but the battle was ultimately won by the Belgian team.

In contrast, Standard Liege defeated guest MOL Fehérvár 3-1 on Thursday in the final and fourth qualifying round of the European Football League, for which the Belgian team reached the main table and the Hungarian was eliminated. (You can find our minute-by-minute report here).

Although Hungarian national team Nikolics took the lead for Fehérvár in the tenth minute, at the beginning of the second half, Standard Liege tied, then walked away from the penalty a narrow quarter of an hour before the end, and finally secured their success with 11 others. The draw for the group round will be held on Friday starting at 1 pm, with the farewell to Fehérvár, no Hungarian team will be interested.

Fehérvár, who was considered less likely, did not start the game at all in a subordinate role, in addition, Nikolics scored from his first fast counterattack, thus taking a lead in the 10th minute. Although the Belgians could have drawn early, they got out of the situation and generally still did not take the lead, and the contradictions of the Hungarian silver medal were also dangerous. At the end of such action, Petrjak could even have doubled White Castle’s lead, but the returning defender was able to block. The fact that Standard Liege hit Kovácsik’s door only once reveals everything about the almost usual stability of the Fehérvár defense.

In the jump, however, the Hungarian team shifted to a higher gear, as a result of which they were able to quickly equalize with a long shot, Fehérvár scored a goal in the series at 358 minutes. Standard still had more ball, had some options, but could not turn it around. Coach Márton Gábor tried to refresh his team with two waist changes from the game, who couldn’t keep the ball even after that, but Standard’s dominance turned out to be sterile. The Belgian Guard finally pulled away from a penalty after Musliu was knocked down, and White Castle failed to renew in the final ten minutes, and Standard secured the 48-team group round with 11 others.
