South Pest is designated first for the treatment of severe coronavirus patients 689 confirmed infections have been treated at the Central Hospital since the start of the epidemic, more than double those treated at a second consecutive hospital. KOne hundred of them were admitted to the intensive care unit and almost all had to be ventilated. The treatment time here was one month on average, the two extremes being 21 and 60 days.

István Vályi-Nagy, director general of the Central Hospital, told the Hungarian Nation that several organs could be damaged as a complication of a coronavirus infection.

It is not true that it is a simple disease, like a simple pneumonia. Ventilation, oxygen therapy is very important, but it does not affect the factors that cause complex organic damage and in which patients eventually die.

The hospital director highlighted that we are not genetically equally susceptible to this disease.

Some do not get it even if they live in close contact with an infected person, while others retain certain residual symptoms for a longer period of time after recovery.

He added that the organs of the elderly are already more worn out, making them the main victims of the epidemic. And if it is accompanied by a chronic disease, your chances of survival are further reduced.

The general director recalled that in March, at the initiative of Miklós Kásler, Minister of Human Resources, a research consortium was formed, whose activities he coordinated.

Our goal is to collect and record patients’ diagnostic and treatment options and algorithms as soon as possible and distribute them to other hospitals.

Currently, the number of Covid patients is increasing both at South Pest Central Hospital and other designated hospitals, so in addition to research goals, therapeutic procedures also need to be harmonized and updated, because there are some changes compared to the first wave of the epidemic.
