A man from Kaposvár beat a cyclist for riding a bicycle on the highway instead of the urbanized cycle lane, according to a statement from the Budapest Attorney General’s Office.

In June 2020, the 40-year-old was driving towards Deseda when he saw a man on the road ahead of him despite the bike path he had built. He paused so much on this that he first passed the rider and then braked in front of him, jeopardizing the rider’s safety. However, he did not feel enough punishment, he even got out of the car and began to angrily argue with the cyclist, who pushed his bike in front of him to protect himself. At one point, however, the driver grabbed the bike, threw it into the ditch by the road, and then attacked the man. The driver repeatedly tried to hit the bike, who was able to dodge the attack for a while, but eventually fell to the ground so the man could hit him in the face twice.

The fight was also seen by the motorists, they tried to run to the aid of the cyclist, they also informed the police.

The cyclist suffered a serious injury that healed beyond 8 days, including a broken cheekbone.

The Kaposvár District Prosecutor’s Office charged the driver with serious bodily injury and danger on the road, and issued a motion to impose a suspended probation prison sentence and a disqualification from driving.
