The government minister of Justice sat down to discuss with the momentary Anna Donáth. The positions weren’t surprising, but rather the number of times the actors almost yelled at each other while talking about the Hungarian rule of law.

Since 2010, it has been very rare for a relevant pro-government actor to sit down to discuss the relevant opposition, but this day has also arrived: the Hungarian government’s Justice Minister, Fidesz Judit Varga, sat down with Anna Donáth, one of the faces Momentum’s best known, to discuss the Hungarian rule of law. . The state of Hungary has been the subject of heated debate at the European level for years, but the background to the online debate originally planned for Tranzit, which was overlooked due to the corona virus, was not very surprising:

There are big problems with Donáth’s rule of law, Varga says that everything is fine, and whoever says otherwise is influenced by external forces.

Momentum shouldn’t preach the rule of law, because in 2006

The case of Vera Jourová was immediately dropped as the first issue: the vice president of the European Commission harshly criticized Hungary and the Viktor Orbán regime, in response to what Varga wanted to resign on Monday. The Fidesz politician quickly said that this criticism was a crossing of a red line, but according to Donáth, that someone said that Hungarian democracy was sick, nobody could say a word, especially since it did not make Hungary sick, but democracy. “He drew attention to the fact that if it continues like this, Hungarian democracy will be destroyed,” he said.

Varga thinks that Jourová’s relationship with the momentary politician is not good, because “he is always very well informed about fake news,” and then he said that the rule of law does not have a clear concept, so there is absolutely nothing good or bad at it. “Doesn’t the democratically elected Hungarian government deserve so much respect for being talked about in that tone?” – asked the question, then quickly brought the issue to the point that Momentum’s opposition allies were actually doing things that raised the issue of the rule of law during the 2006 protests, “Brussels has not moved its ears.”

The type of partisan alliance that Momentum will initiate in 2022 is due in large part to the electoral law that the government has enacted. “

– Donáth answered why he had established an alliance with both the DK and the MSZP, and then asked not to be held accountable for 2006, as they did not exist at the time and they were never told that everything was fine there. Donáth then tried to divert the conversation towards the rule of law, but quickly failed because Varga suggested a second time that the anti-Semite Jobbik would also ally himself with the Momentum, but recalled that “the Momentum took a dream by torpedoing the Budapest Olympics.” .

Hungry for power who says!

On the subject of the desire for power, the two participants have already tried to dialogue: Varga says that the Momentum is hungry for power because it unites with anyone, and Donáth says that the government even changes its own rules to retain power.

“I just want to know that when the buttons are pressed outside in Brussels, does someone tell you that the decisions you vote for are not necessarily in Hungary’s interest?” – Varga asked, who alleges in the Momentum that they do not have their own points of view but guardianben Spiegelimport et al. The latter was a recurring idea for Varga, as he said that the majority of Momentum and MEPs read these newspapers too much, so they do not know the real situation in Hungary.

According to the Minister of Justice, the big picture is the communist pace of the quality of democracy, because Hungary has everything that is not in many countries, and when he gave the example of Péter Donáth Polt as chief prosecutor, he said:

that Polt cannot be a party soldier, as he is not a member of Fidesz.

Once this was known, the foreign policy of the Momentum emerged: specifically why non-Hungarian parties do not have the support of our neighbors. “I don’t believe in ethnic politicking, I think the majority should be able to represent minorities as well,” Donáth explained why Momentum earlier defended the Romanian RSU and the Progressive Slovakia party. According to Varga, Momentum violated the emotions of hundreds of thousands of Hungarians.

Then came the Hungarian minorities: “It cannot be said that this government did not do everything possible to build a society based on work. See how many of the fallen have higher education, ”said Judit Varga, who boasted of Fidesz’s results in helping Hungarian gypsies, while after yelling at each other, Donáth said that the EU did not accidentally settle for spending the money, since there was no systemic change.

Donáth also raised the impossibility of the Gábor Iványi church, to which Varga only said that these organizations are outstanding examples, and that everything goes according to official procedure, as in a state governed by the rule of law.

“Don’t be mad, but are you a lawyer?”

When the readers’ questions arrived, they did not have much problem with the concrete answers, but they continued to fight: “The rule of law is a pure tool of blackmail,” he repeated recently. Radio KossuthVarga, then, when Donáth listed the criteria of the rule of law, he argued more simply. “Don’t be mad, but are you a lawyer?” The politician with a law degree asked the politician with a sociology degree. From that moment on, they started a stable fight.

“Do you know what conservative politicians are doing? They have built a world around them with the media that cannot accept their true opinion. Fortunately, the Hungarian government dares, ”Varga explained the reason for the existence of conservative politicians who criticize Hungary, and then emphasized that they always told him otherwise in the elevator.

In fact, in the perhaps more heated debate than expected, the two politicians could not agree on even the most basic facts, so even if no one came close to the exact definition of the rule of law, the 2020 state of Hungary could be tested very deeply.
