Hourly wage of 9,000 guilders: the world’s highest minimum wage has been introduced in Geneva. Residents of the canton of the same name, which includes the city of Geneva, approved a minimum wage of at least 23 francs, or more than 25 euros an hour, for full-time workers in a referendum on Sunday. With a working time of 41 hours a week, this means a monthly salary of 4086 francs. The unions justified the amount on the grounds that it was impossible to guarantee a decent life with a lower income, the telegraph office wrote.

Hungary has the lowest minimum wage among the V4

The minimum wage is three times higher in Germany and four times higher in Luxembourg than in Hungary.

In Geneva, the cost of living is exceptionally high, partly due to the fact that employees of the United Nations and other international organizations receive high wages free of tax. A typical two-room apartment has a monthly rent of 3,000 francs, food prices are twice those in Germany, and a cup of coffee costs between four and five francs.

Australia has so far had the highest hourly wage in the world. At $ 19.84 it is equivalent to 13.15 Swiss francs, but the minimum wage is also much lower in Germany and France, neighbors of Switzerland: € 9.35 for Germans and € 10.15 for French.
