The new coronavirus infection (COVID-19) was detected in 702 new Hungarian citizens, increasing the number of infected people in Hungary to 24,716. Thirteen patients died, bringing the number of deaths to 749, and 5,152 have already recovered. The number of actively infected people is 18,815. 37% of the actively infected, 54% of the dead and 39% of those recovered are from Budapest. 693 coronavirus patients are treated in the hospital, 44 of them are on respirators, writes koronavirus.gov.hu.

The number of new infections per day is the only favorable data in the statistics, however, it must be emphasized that for weeks this data has not been significant, since Hungary has reached the limit of test capacity, that is, it cannot detect more new cases per day.

The number of deaths in one day rose to 13, as many daily deaths so far in the second wave of the epidemic.

The number of hospitalized and ventilated patients also increased significantly. In one day, 73 people were hospitalized, their number reached 693, so far we have not seen such a significant increase in the second wave. The number of ventilated people also began to increase rapidly again.

Operations staff currently ordered extraordinary breaks in 17 kindergartens and 7 schools, and digital work schedules for 118 classes and 3 entire schools due to coronavirus illnesses.

Only 7065 tests were performed in the previous 24 hours, which is much lower than last week’s average (10,200). We only saw such a low sample rate on Tuesday, September 22.

It is not surprising, then, that the proportion of positive tests within those carried out is once again around 10%. This means that there is significant under-detection, and therefore official data on new daily diseases does not give an accurate picture of the status of the epidemic.

In the last 24 hours, the majority of the patients, 207, were found in Budapest. There were 73 new patients in Pest County, 62 in Fejér County. There were 51 new infections in Győr-Moson-Sopron county, 43 in Baranya, and fewer than 40 in other counties, mostly between 10 and 30. According to official data, there were no new infections in Szabolcs-Szatmár county.
