In vain did the left stand behind Ferenc Csorbai, it turned out that collaboration was not a panacea. Csorbai ran the city for a year, which has now been taken back by Fidesz.

The interim municipal elections in Mohács were accompanied by great interest throughout the day, with half an hour before the polls closed, 53.36 percent of voters cast their vote.

This far exceeded the turnout from the last race last fall, when 38.11 percent of voters voted in favor at 6:30 p.m.

Additionally, turnout is significantly higher than the national average for the 2019 municipal elections, which was 47.2 percent a year ago at 6:30 p.m.

József Gál became mayor of Kengyel

József Gál (independent) won the interim mayoral election held on Sunday in Kengyel, Jász-Nagykun-Szolnok county, the settlement secretary told MTI.

László Bartók said that of the four independent candidates, József Gál received 640 votes, Szilárd Nagy 493, Miklós Kovács 331, Róbert Buzás 21 votes. He added: 2843 people were on the electoral roll, 1488 of them voted, 3 voters were invalid.

In Kengyelen, the local council terminated Mayor Szilárd Nagy’s term last November out of indignity. Szilárd Nagy appealed the decision, but the Szolnok Labor and Administrative Court rejected his application in January this year. Since then, the settlement has been run by Deputy Mayor Lajos Németh.

The provisional elections would have been originally held in April, but were lost due to the provisions of the Coronavirus Epidemic Control Act.

László Tánczos won the interim mayoral elections in Beregdaróc

László Tánczos was elected mayor of Beregdaróc from among three independent candidates in the interim municipal elections held on Sunday, the Szabolcs-Szatmár-Bereg county settlement secretary told MTI.

According to information from Szilvia Gál, 436 of the 777 beregdaróc voted. Of the 435 valid votes, the town’s former deputy mayor, László Tánczos, received 249 votes, 153 votes for Zoltán Juhász and 33 votes for Oszkár Veress.

The vote had to be held in the village near the Hungarian-Ukrainian border because György Pálinkás (independent), who had previously led the settlement, resigned on 21 February.
