According to the announcement, researchers involved in the Innovative Medicines Initiative, Europe’s largest drug development program, discovered that when coronavirus binds to the cell surface, the cell surface binding site, ACE2 (converting enzyme angiotensin), is added to the cell surface. and this facilitates the entry of the virus into the cell.

The new mechanism discovered under the leadership of Tamás Letoha may be suitable for inhibiting coronavirus infection. The corresponding patent was filed by researchers from the National Intellectual Property Office in May.
