The government leaves Hungary from the international environmental organization REC

The government has decided to terminate the agreement on the status of the Central and Eastern European Regional Environmental Center (REC) with respect to Hungary. The agreement was announced by Hungary on July 17, 2012 and completion will take place on November 1, 2021. The REC head office building is in Szentendre.

According to the decree published in the Hungarian Gazette, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade takes care of the necessary measures for the termination. The agreement announced in 2012 designated Szentendre as the headquarters of the international organization that deals with environmental issues.

REC was founded in 1990 by the US, the EU and Hungary, with a contribution of between US $ 5-5 million and the EU. The REC letter has been signed by 31 countries and the European Commission. Simultaneously with the termination decree, the government also issued a resolution to resolve the situation of the properties in use by the REC. The deadline is October 31st.

On the basis of the review, the Minister of Agriculture will ensure the termination of the Szentendre real estate transfer agreement of 19 December 1995 between the Ministry of Environment and Regional Development and the REC, the related financial settlement and reimbursement to REC of the amount determined by virtue of it. The Ministry of Agriculture makes the necessary amount available to the Minister of Agriculture.
