In Romania, the daily number of newly diagnosed infections has risen to more than 1,700: 1,767 cases of coronavirus disease were reported on Wednesday. That number is more than 40 percent higher than the average for the past two weeks. In Romania, after a month and a half of steady spread, the epidemic started to pick up again last week, averaging 1,250 new cases per day. In the last 24 hours, 47 coronavirus patients have died, including two young people in their twenties, bringing the number of victims to 4,550. More than 116,000 people have been diagnosed with the infection since the outbreak began, the MTI wrote.

The number of known active cases has exceeded 18,300, more than 7,000 are hospitalized, and the number of severe cases requiring intensive care is close to 500. Health Minister Nelu Tataru said the positive scenario, based on disciplined compliance with precautions, is expected to reduce the number of daily cases from mid-October.

However, the head of the ministry also does not rule out the possibility that the authorities will be forced to take additional quarantine measures if the disease rate exceeds the capacity of the health system.
