Index – National – The quarantine also takes money out of the pockets of other colleagues

Three times as many people search for the terms coronavirus sick leave and quarantine illness in Hungary now than in mid-summer.

It is also a warning to employers that the trend of seeking layoffs has been reversed.

While several people filed for a layoff from their employer in the spring, the opposite is true: The number of searches for layoffs has increased 1.5 times since March. Therefore, companies should keep in mind that they will only be able to compensate for the loss of revenue due to the epidemic and fulfill their orders if they avoid a subsequent wave of layoffs on time, in addition to coping with illness and mandatory quarantine absenteeism .

This is clear from the analysis of the communications consultancy Avantgarde Group. András Tengelits, the company’s public relations director, said that as the number of official cases increases, people are increasingly interested in whether they can expect cash benefits in the event of a possible official action.

In a situation where we look at another with suspicion due to a sneeze, overcoming worker fears through honest and open communication is at least as appropriate to deal with in the fall wave of the epidemic as it is this spring.

According to the study, those who contract the disease and possibly infect their employees may also fear stigma in their workplace. Closely related to this are the uncertainties that can be caused by official quarantine, as someone may be required to separate to protect themselves without showing symptoms and may not be entitled to social security payment or benefits during this period. Therefore, someone can even become a scapegoat in a workplace if they turn out to be infected, and therefore their colleagues must also be quarantined. All this can lead to someone hiding rather if they have mild symptoms or have come across an infected person.

At the time of the spring curfew, employers mostly reported that the health of their employees was paramount to them, showing a truly responsible approach, but that it has now been overused, emptied. Instead, there is a need to strengthen the measures that the employer will take to help its employees if they find themselves in a difficult situation: the opportunity to work from home, free trials, rescheduling of leave. Your clear in-and-out communication will definitely pay off in the long run.

The company’s research also reveals that during the spring exit restrictions, an average of 500 news items were published daily about the coronavirus, with the five most mentioned areas including how individual businesses and organizations responded to the challenges caused by the coronavirus epidemic. In addition to the numerical statistics, the agency also carried out a qualitative analysis. Based on this, companies highlighted messages related to maintaining health, a safe work environment and increased job retention.
