Hungarians would treat the second wave of the coronavirus epidemic differently than what the government envisions, but this does not necessarily mean that they are less strict. We asked the readers of hvg.hu, here are their answers.

Coronavirus: the second wave

Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the posters, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

Do you agree with the new government measures? we asked our readers on Thursday afternoon. Depending on the question, 7300-7800 responses were received to our non-representative survey on Thursday afternoon, so it can be said that hvg.hu readers consider that most of the new steps announced by Viktor Orbán are nonsense. or they are harmful.

For example, our readers are not passionate about a total border block virtually overnight, and the quarantine obligation that comes with it. Of course, only one side of this is that Hungarians cannot go anywhere as tourists, the Hungarian economy is also noticeably affected by the restriction, which we do not see the end of according to the current announcement by Viktor Orbán. Only 13 percent of our respondents share the government’s opinion on this, almost half say they do not share in terms of the spread of the virus, it does not multiply if we close the borders or not, and 38 percent see this as a particularly harmful measure.

Rigor, on the other hand, is shared the most when it comes to wearing a mask, and in fact, 39 percent of those surveyed would go even further, demanding that the face be covered on the street, in workplaces or in the schools. And only 9 percent of those who say it doesn’t make sense to wear a mask. The proportions of our 714 readers roughly correspond to the crowd that protested in the capital last Friday against wearing a mask.

Regarding the visitation ban, however, our readers are divided: 52 percent support it, 48 more precisely, maintaining the necessary precautions, would allow close relatives to visit their loved ones in hospitals and nursing homes.

Again, hvg.hu readers don’t know what to do with measuring body temperature at school: almost three-quarters of our respondents think that digital thermometers used for this purpose are not suitable for screening out infections , or any other thing.

Our respondents face the decision on the official price of coronavirus tests with greater clarity. The maximum price of 19,500 HUF is considered a good solution at less than 3 percent, another 15 percent believe that the official price makes sense; the rest expect the state to provide a wide range of free trials.

Our readers don’t really know what to do with the 23-hour club closing hours, although there is less resistance here. As in our test at the end of August, we see here that some of our respondents are in favor of more rigor: 23% would not even allow them to open discos. Less than 8 percent agree with the measure; the remaining 79 percent share the view that such a restriction makes no sense.
