Only those who will be taking samples at their own discretion will have to pay for the PCR test, according to the Secretary of State.

Coronavirus: the second wave

Half a year after the spring outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. According to the posters, the second wave also reached Hungary. Follow our news!

The PCR test to detect the coronavirus will have to be paid for by those who make their own decision to go to the sample, said a parliamentary secretary of state for the Prime Minister’s Office in a video uploaded to the government’s Facebook page on Thursday.

Csaba Dömötör recalled: the cabinet decided this week to introduce an official price for the PCR test. This will be HUF 19,500, which includes the sampling and analysis fee. (Although this is much cheaper than the amount requested by public institutions so far, there are private laboratories where a much better price has been offered, although with special conditions).

It is important to know that if the test is ordered by a family doctor, a hospital or an authority on the basis of a protocol, you still will not have to pay, said the Secretary of State, noting that so far 580 thousand samples have been taken in Hungary, most for free.

The official price will apply to those who voluntarily request a PCR test, for example, to “get rid” of the official home quarantine with two negative results upon return from abroad. The aim is that no one can “win” the tests, the government’s decision serves this purpose – emphasized Csaba Dömötör.
