Sport: Five reasons why Fradi could have reached so high

Eleven years ago, the Hungarian club team was not as close to the Champions League group as Ferencváros is now, but there is also a unique aspect: since the development of modern football, which is still known today, we have not seen a Hungarian team for three years in a row. in one of the autumn international cups, and two of them have now been collected by Fradi, among others, by beating Croatian champion Dinamo Zagreb at home.

This is the first time that the Hungarian government has invested money in club football for the first time, it seems that one of the projects has been successful. Although there are still no signs that the FTC football team wants to become self-sufficient, we could also start to talk about this bit by bit: there was 15 million euros for a group round of Bl last season, plus 2.7 million euros for a win and $ 900 for a draw. thousands of euros. It says a lot about the size of the money, that even for the last qualifying round, it costs only 480 thousand euros.

In other words, according to Transfermarkt, the Budafok mark would come out four times of the 15 million euros, but even the third most valuable Felcsút would come out only 10.6 million euros. And that’s a lot, considering the total value of the FTC soccer team is just over € 23.2 million.

The question, however, was: what did Fradi do better than Videoton before, and before that, Debrecen can be considered a forerunner of NER football? We’ve summed up five points of why we’re there in the 2020 qualifiers which, based on what we’ve shown on the field, are deservedly beaten by opponents with generally bigger names in the FTC.

Appointment of Serhiy Rebrov

Since Gábor Kubatov became president, Fradi has not only solved his financial problems, but has become the richest team in the country, which can easily bring in players from all over the region. But that’s not always enough, as we’ve seen from Rebrov’s predecessor, Thomas Doll, how little financial support it may seem: Doll has been able to sweat a single championship title and three cup victories in five years, and since Rebrov’s arrival. , the FTC has won the Hungarian championship without problems.

It’s not a coincidence the improvement: Rebrov has been consciously justifying to players since season three that they aren’t expensive just because they come from a great club. Tokmac Chol Nguen, 26, was fished from Norway and Myrto Uzuni from the second-line Croatian Lokomotiv. Although Rebrov came with enthusiasm from the Ukrainian league when he arrived, where one of the country’s sports legends is by far the most attractive. Rebrov, however, broke for the first time with the misconception that the German second division or the Dutch lower house is the ideal reinforcement for a team preparing for Europe in Central Europe.

From the point of view of the goal to be achieved, it is especially advantageous that Hungarian club football still does not think about selling talented players: the players who stood out in EL last season all stayed at Fradi.

Ignore Hungarian football

Sad to say, one of the keys to Fradi’s success is that he is now practically separated from the national circulation. Roland Varga, who was not a key person for a long time, played a total of six minutes in the playoffs so far and 107 minutes in two league games. The weight of Endre Botka’s role varies, but only three Hungarians count as basic people: the national team 36 times Gergő Lovrencsics on the edge, Dávid Sigér in the middle and Dénes Dibusz in the goal. These three players belong to the Hungarian football elite, however, none of them have anything to do with Fradi before, moreover, they did not come from the academic system.

This practice is especially evident in the example of Roland Varga: while you can expect big shots at NB I as a substitute, he is not reliable and disciplined enough internationally. This Fradi, on the other hand, no longer leads to NB I and doesn’t just want to beat Paks or Kisvárda.

For similar reasons, the club let go of audience favorite Daniel Böde: the forward had enough enthusiasm at home, but it would have been very naive to expect him to play football at BL or even EL level once in 32 years.

By definition, Fradi’s composition is also a serious criticism of the Hungarian academic system, which has been able to supply players only to the middle and lower house of the Hungarian championship for more than ten years. However, since the interest of the FTC club is not to make Hungarian football great, but to be a successful player, it was an important step to forget the Hungarian players along with the academies that functioned without success.

Commitment to the fans

Everyone can have an opinion on the Hungarian fan scene, but the image of a successful club around the world includes what the relationship is to the hard core behind them. In Fradin, over the years, the fight with Gábor Kubatov, which sometimes took a rather terrifying form, sometimes only provoked unforgettable third-class matches, is now over. The camp has also been raised a bit, they can also be taken abroad, and the management has also learned a bit that the fans can not be replaced.

The public also shows that most of the people around Fradi are now basically satisfied: last season, an average of 10,000 people went to the Groupama Arena for a championship, and only the names in the entire region attract more people every two weeks. Than Dynamo Kiev (14,000), Crvena Zvezda (13,000) or great Austrian teams that have traditionally treated the fans well.

Of course, it is worth noting that this also required the club management not to penalize lynching in a particular stand, and a sound grenade exploded in the hands of a young fan, just as the clashes of fans gathered in the match CSKA 2019 against Moscow left to the Russian side.

Coronavirus

It is very difficult to say anything good about the epidemic that has plagued the world for more than half a year, but overall, Hungarian club teams could even benefit from the collapse of the European economy due to the virus. It is a telling fact that while thirteen club teams in Germany reported facing bankruptcy in April, a total of hundreds of millions of euros had disappeared from the Bundesiga, whereas in Hungary there was no such thing. Fradi’s players have theatrically given up a fifth of their salary when the country is completely closed, and perhaps no one needs to explain how much better morale can be built in a workplace where no one is afraid of losing their job.

Furthermore, compared to the rest of Europe, Hungarian football returned to normal as soon as possible: in Hungary, with no spectator restrictions, the tournament could end by the end of June and full preparations could be made, with the qualifiers starting few weeks before the tournament. at the same time as the league.

Single match qualifying rounds

It belongs to the coronavirus, but as a special fact it stands out how well Fradi did with the fact that due to the slippage of the entire European Cup season, until now he only had to play rounds of one round in the qualifiers. It is by no means certain that the normally spectacularly depressed Budapest team could have surprised their opponent in a back-and-forth system twice as much as they did with Celtic, enough to remind us of last year’s matches. against Dinamo Zagreb, where they made a promising draw for the first race. in Zagreb, and then in Budapest without any chance.

Soccer, of course, must always be played according to the current rules, so nothing is taken away from the merits of the FTC which, due to unusual circumstances, was sufficient to compete with teams ranked above them during 90 minutes. The playoffs that begin next week, which will be decisive for the group round, may already go down in the traditional order, so the recipe will probably change a bit, as Dávid Sigér also mentioned after yesterday’s success.
