Index – Domestic – Fight in Veresegyháza for bear heads

As the Index wrote yesterday, the mandate of the limited liability company of the same name, which manages the Veresegyházi Bear Home, expired on September 15, and the municipality that owns the zoo did not extend the contract signed ten years ago. The executive director said yesterday that he would not give the keys to the mayor because the municipality did not have the necessary permits to care for dangerous animals.

The 82-year-old mayor Béla Pásztor appeared in person this morning at eight in the morning to receive the key to the House of the Bear from the managing director Bálint Kuli, who, fulfilling his promise, was waiting with the press and his lawyers in the zoo restaurant. The meeting turned into a heated debate. According to the mayor, permits will be received in a week, but according to the Bear Home operator, it is a matter of months.

It immediately turned out that the real emphasis was not on permits either, but on who would take care of the animals from the day of delivery. All eight keepers are employees of Veresegyház Medveotthon Kft., And the local government has no people to work with, but does not even have a plan on who to deal with the animals.

Kuli’s lawyer noted that there are special laws that make the transfer of property illegal. While Béla Pásztor made a personal and honorable matter upon receiving the key, the Kuli staff mentioned the legislation.

The Executive Director requested the relevant government office to send a notary to resolve the dispute. The key finally stayed with Kuli, and the mayor left. And the Bear Home operation continues, “only” with so many changes that the operator has no contract for it.

We did a video report of the event. Let’s see the bear!
