The actor wrote in an open letter that he said the University of Theater and Motion Picture Arts was never independent.

There is growing resistance from students and professors to the reduction of the autonomy of the University of Theater and Film Arts (SZFE) due to the government’s decision to continue the university as a foundation under Attila Vidnyánszky. More and more world-famous artists are joining the solidarity movement around SZFE, but the Vidnyánszky family is not expanding. You can follow the latest developments in the SZFE scandal in our article series.

Echoing the words of Attila Vidnyánszky, Péter Benkő wrote in an open letter that he considers “insidious, furtive, atypical, cowardly” that “young people and children are sent to the line of fire”. (Vidnyánszky has been talking for a month about the fact that he believes SZFE students are manipulated with arguments called professions.) Péter Benkő also believes that the students are “cheated”.

The boys believe that they defend their own independence, the independence of the university, even though SZFE has never been independent, especially in the last thirty years.

Young people now defend the instigators.

For internationalism. What they may not know what is. I didn’t know when I was young either. Now I do not know.

Doing this with boys is like an irresponsible expectant mother pushing her baby in front of her in a stroller when she wants to cross to the other side in heavy traffic, not a zebra. Then the traffic stops, the child is not run over anyway.

Then he asks “free thinkers” for permission to express his thoughts freely. These are:

I am white, straight and believe in God. Not in liberalism.

I feel free now.

Free Hungary!

The letter does not address exactly what these thoughts mean in theatrical terms.
