The willingness to wear a mask on public transport in Budapest is again close to 100 percent, the Budapest Transport Center said on Friday. It was recalled that based on the decision of the operational staff of the capital, BKK has reinforced the control of the mandatory use of masks when using public transport: those who do not use or do not use a mask, shawl or scarf properly can not only be excluded of the travel service.
According to unrepresentative BKK surveys conducted on September 9 and 10, 2020, the willingness to wear a mask on flights and stopovers is approaching 100 percent again. The data is also supported by the experience of the BKK inspection team, reinforced by the inspectors in the public area, who, although they had to warn some passengers to wear masks, did not have to pay extra for any of them.
On the first day of the strictest inspection, on September 10, the reinforced team worked mainly on the busiest public transport lines in Budapest. BKK staff in several different city centers have verified compliance with a sample of around 20-20 thousand people in the last two days, and they observe that 96-98 percent of passengers in the city use and use masks, possibly scarves and shawls properly. The increase is welcome: Values remained so high in the days after the sanitary standards were introduced in late April, and figures for the second half of summer showed only about 85 percent.
The increase in inspections will continue, and inspectors and public space inspectors can be expected to have less frequent lines in the coming days, according to the communication.
