Gergely Karácsony, Mayor of Budapest, shared his thoughts on protecting against coronavirus with Prime Minister Viktor Orbán in an open letter. In the letter, Christmas complained that the government has not yet shared substantive information on advocacy with municipalities that play a key role in controlling the epidemic, nor are they informed about planned government actions.
To help them think together, Christmas made three proposals in his letter to the Prime Minister.
The first is for the government to increase testing capacity and provide free coronavirus testing, at least to those who need it. The mayor also refers to the same opinion of the experts of the Medical Chamber in the letter and writes: its possibilities do not allow it ”. Christmas also asked for information on what the government is doing to make the trials free and for more extensive testing.
Christmas’s second proposal is for the free state teacher evaluation. By the way, this was also raised by Béla Merkely, rector of SOTE, as a possible way to control the coronavirus in schools and maintain education.
The third proposal is that the government do something to prevent the epidemic, which is now spreading mainly among the young, from spreading to the older age group. According to Christmas, according to international examples, this usually occurs in 4-5 weeks, so the mayor asks the government what measures are planned to avoid this scenario.
