The number of deaths from the coronavirus epidemic and the number of patients treated in intensive care units skyrocketed, according to authorities on Wednesday in Italy, where most of the recorded infections are still under the age of thirty. Most of the new infections, 218, were found in Lombardy, 203 in Campania and 175 in Lazio. The number of active infections could approach 35,000. Most of the new patients are young, but at the same time, the number of people cared for in the intensive care unit and the number of deaths is constantly increasing. Including both the cured and the dead, the number of diagnosed infections reached 281,583. In Italy, more than 9.4 million tests have been carried out since February. The health authorities highlighted that, despite the increase in the epidemic curve, the proportion of detected infections increased by only 10 percent in the first week of September, well below previous data. It also affects Italy that the trial of a vaccine developed at the University of Oxford has been suspended because part of the vaccine has been produced in laboratories in Italy.
