János Slavik: People have tired of the coronavirus, they decide they will not defend themselves

Keeping a mask and a protective distance against the virus is still the best defense, he said. János Slavik chief infectologist on Tuesday night in Klubrádió.

As said, it is necessary to make a distinction between the curves of the current and spring epidemic: there were many elderly patients in the spring, many were hospitalized, even intensively, currently there are many fewer in hospital, very few have died so far .

In the spring, everyone was not prepared for the epidemic, they did not know what to do yet, so they were forced to close people. We now know that those at risk can protect themselves by wearing a mask everywhere, constantly disinfecting their hands, and avoiding close contact with their younger relatives.

He said, adding that one of the greatest dangers of the coronavirus now is that many asymptomatic young people are infected.

János Slavik never considered that the mortality data in Hungary was worrying, they are not high in terms of population. However, with the spread of the epidemic, we are no longer well.

It alarms me to see that they hardly wear a mask in shopping centers, restaurants, people are fed up with the coronavirus, they decide that later they do not protect themselves, although they should not only think about themselves as they can infect others. More restrictions could be introduced, this will be decided on the basis of the epidemic curve, considering averages of several days.

He explained.

The chief infectologist also spoke on the point of what is the dynamics of the infection. If they cannot transmit the infection, it is good to treat the epidemic, if they can transmit it to other people and even increase the size of the infections, something needs to be done immediately.

The use and disinfection of masks are the solution. If thousands are in quarantine, it is also better than a complete shutdown

Added.

He said it was a good decision to open schools anyway and so far it seems that no institution should be closed because they find a positive case among children.
