The coronavirus was brought from Croatia in summer, it spread in Hungary in the community, during large groups, so spoke Béla Merkely, rector of Semmelweis University, in the InfoRádió Aréna program according to hvg.hu.

The expert said that a large number of young people can transmit the virus to the elderly, and if this happens, a relatively ineffective defense will also infect a relatively large number of the elderly and lead to death.

He says he can be trusted to have lost the power of the virus, but that will only become apparent in four to five months.

Béla Merkely would suggest several things to reduce the epidemic:

  • consider state screening of high-risk individuals, including teachers;
  • recover the shopping time slot for the safety of the elderly;
  • prohibit night parties;
  • and would also mandate the mandatory use of masks indoors.

Regarding the latter, he spoke about some estimates that if 80 percent of the population wears a mask, the infection rate cannot increase and practically regresses.

He believes that any epidemic can be stopped without closing the country with very disciplined cooperation.

And on the vaccine, he said, it could be in two months, the only question is who will be available and when.
