He hit the ball in anger.

Novak Djokovic, a Serbian first, was disqualified from his round of 16 match due to a ball hit by a linesman, ending the US Open.

The number one favorite in the men’s race in the first set against Spaniard Pablo Carreño-Busta led his rival with a 6: 5 advantage at the end of Game 11, angrily striking the ball, finding one of the linesmen in his throat that had to be removed from the scene. Following the incident, a long discussion began, the Serbian star negotiating with the match director and the first man of the competition for almost ten minutes, then acknowledging that, according to the rules, he was in the fate of exclusion.

Djokovic, who has won all 26 games so far this year, is set to win his 18th Grand Slam in New York, where he won the US Open trophy three times in his career.

Results, eighth final:

Carreño-Busta (Spanish, 20) – Djokovic (Serbian, 1) Djokovic retired in 6: 5
