The relationship between Hungary and Romania will be strengthened in many areas with the delivery of the M4 section on Friday.

They can pass through Hungary

Lucian Nicolae Bode called the construction of the cross-border highway and the border crossing one of the most important projects of the two countries in recent years. He stressed that the Romanian side had completed the section on time, which was part of the Transylvanian highway under construction.

Peter Szjjártó said that cooperation with our neighbors largely depends on the connections we have with them. This has one of the biggest competitive disadvantages of Central Europe compared to Western Europe, because while in the West there are opportunities to cross the border every 2.5-3 kilometers, in Central Europe the average distance is 35-40 kilometers. Therefore, it is in Hungary’s national economic and strategic interest to have as many physical connections as possible with its neighbors.

– It is in the interest of our country to be connected with Romania as much and as densely as possible. This is good for economic cooperation, good for trade and good for the communities along the border, Péter Szijjártó noted. – It is foolish to only give up the second highway junction to Romania, while our neighbor to the east is our ninth most important partner, our fourth most important export market and the eighth most important destination country for Hungarian capital investment. Today, with the delivery of the M4, we can take a big step forward in this regard.

This is the twelfth crossing point on the border of the two countries. We will continue the work, we have stayed with our ministerial colleagues to build the next motorway connection in the direction of Satu Mare in four years on Csenger and deliver it in 2024.
