The number of new coronavirus infections per day increased in the Czech Republic, with 650 new confirmed coronavirus infections detected on Wednesday morning, according to the Health Ministry, which is about 150 more than the highest number of cases the day before. On Tuesday, 504 people were diagnosed with Covid-19 disease, according to reviewed data.

Since the first infection was detected on March 1, more than 25,773 people have been infected in the Czech Republic.

The number of daily cases has risen steadily in recent weeks, faster than in the spring.

425 people died as a result of the infection, while more than 18,300 have already recovered. The number of actively infected people exceeds seven thousand.

Health Minister Adam Vojtech indicated that the deterioration of the situation is likely to lead to a tightening of existing precautions. According to the minister, this would mainly affect Prague, where the number of infected people per 100,000 inhabitants is already around fifty. The worst situation is in Hodonín and its surroundings in South Moravia, where 64 patients per 100,000 inhabitants.

Since Tuesday, the use of a mask is mandatory in health and social institutions, offices, public transport and polling stations. However, for a positive Covid-19 test, the mandatory quarantine has been reduced from two weeks to 10 days.

Jarmila Rázová, medical director, was also announced on Wednesday and placed in quarantine. Adam Vojtech’s test was negative, but after being in daily contact with the medical director, he was also forced to quarantine him. Ladislav Dusek, director of the health information office, also tested positive. Deputy Prime Minister Karel Havlícek and more than a dozen members of parliament are also in quarantine.

So far, there are no national data on the impact of starting school in September on the epidemic.
