Basically, they expect traffic to drop to just 3,000 passengers per day, which was similar between mid-March and June, the Budapest airport communications chief told Magyar Nemzet. Katalin Valentinyi pointed out that in September, the airport generally handles 50,000 daily traffic. It’s easy to see from the numbers that austerity and the spread of the virus could significantly reduce passenger traffic.
He added that by August we had managed to increase traffic to approximately 80 flights per day, which in turn was four times the average for the spring period. This meant roughly five hundred direct flights a week from Budapest. Although passenger traffic in July was still more than 80 percent lower than the previous year, about 301,000 passengers showed up at the airport.
According to the CAPA Aviation Knowledge Center, 3.2 million passengers arrived at the Budapest airport in the first seven months of the year, 64 percent less than in the same period last year.
