Here’s the government’s new idea: Parking on Grand Boulevard would be abolished

Balázs Fürjes, secretary of state responsible for the development of Budapest and the metropolitan agglomeration, suggested that the current parking lot on Grand Boulevard could be a cycle lane, in exchange for which the temporary cycle lanes should now be abolished immediately.

The case is not without precedent. The secretary of state has already faced temporary cycle lanes several times, saying that a car chase is underway in Budapest.

Now he writes on Twitter that there may be a bike lane on Grand Boulevard instead of a parking lane. At the same time, the collection of shops and disabled parking must be resolved.

Fürjes continues to demand that the lane be returned to motorists before the start of the school year (Tuesday).

However, before the car parks are removed, there should be meaningful dialogue and impact studies.

It is memorable that the municipality of the capital decided at the end of March to take advantage of the halving of car traffic during the quarantine period, to create temporary cycle lanes on some important routes in Budapest. The Budapest Transport Center (BKK) is waiting for people’s opinion on the new rails until August 31, that is, today.

On behalf of Napi.hu, Pulzus Kutató also conducted a poll on the issue, which revealed that people are very divided on the issue.
