In Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia, border closures will be the last measure

Austria, the Czech Republic and Slovakia want to avoid closing the borders despite the increase in the number of people infected with the coronavirus, said the presidents of the chambers of the three countries.

Wolfgang Sobotka, the Austrian, Boris Kollár, Slovak and Radek Vondrácek, the president of the Czech legislature met on Sunday at Grafenegg Castle in Lower Austria.

Hungary announced at the end of the week that it would restrict the entry of foreigners from Tuesday.

After the meeting, Boris Kollár said that the issue had been discussed and that closing the borders was the last measure they wanted to take, the Slovak news agency TASR reported. Kollár assured his Austrian interlocutor that Slovak nurses would be able to travel to Austria without restrictions in the future.

Wolfgang Sobotka thanked the three countries for their cooperation and highlighted the need for regular consultations to successfully combat the Covid-19 disease caused by the SARS-CoV-2 coronavirus.

Regarding the measures taken by the Belarusian authorities, the Austrian President expressed his dismay and called for their solidarity with the Belarusian people and civil society.
