Starting on September 1, the government will temporarily reestablish border control on the entire internal border according to a government decree published in the Hungarian Gazette on Sunday.

Hungarian citizens arriving from abroad or their non-citizen family members can undergo a medical examination upon entry. If an infection is suspected, participants will be placed in designated quarantine or, if they do not pose an epidemiological risk, official internal quarantine. If the examination does not reveal a suspicion of infection, the participants will be placed in quarantine or official home quarantine designated by the epidemiological authority for 14 days. If a contact infection is suspected, the first test can be started on the fourth day from the day the contact person came into contact with the infected person.

According to the Regulation, in the case of an unofficial border crossing with a private passport and another travel document, those and their relatives who are entitled to permanent residence in Hungary are treated in the same way as a Hungarian citizen, and those who have a permit issued by the Aliens Police Authority to stay in Hungary for more than 90 days, as well as competitors, sports professionals and delegates of Hungarian sports organizations if they enter the country after participating in an international sports event in abroad.

Scope of the Regulation it does not cover the crossing of borders in the traffic of goods and with an official passport, as well as those that provide credible evidence at the time of entry that they have been infected with a coronavirus during the previous six months.

Alternatively, subject to the protocol of the European Football Association, participants can enter the country with a negative PCR test no longer than three days.

It has been announced that the government may issue a separate decree on epidemiological regulations to be followed at major sporting events.

Military convoys can also enter the territory of Hungary., being able to cross the country if the movement of the equipment involves only the movement of technical equipment, supplies and personnel and the border crossing through neighboring countries is assured.
