Vaccination against the coronavirus is not mandatory in Austria.

Coronavirus: the second wave

Half a year after the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in the spring, the second wave of the pandemic has arrived. The radical increase in the number of infected is forcing more and more countries to re-impose restrictions, despite the fact that the world economy has not even recovered from the effects of the spring outbreak. The year 2020 has brought unprecedented challenges, but slowly seeing the light at the end of the tunnel, the epidemic-induced crisis is likely to last longer than various experts originally predicted, Sebastian Kurz said at a news conference on Friday.

The Austrian chancellor said that compared to spring, they now know much more about the coronavirus, have a better understanding of how it spreads, to whom it poses a greater threat, and see this as an important step forward in itself. Kurz did not rule out the possibility of another short circuit, but stressed that everything possible will be done to prevent it.

The chancellor stressed that only a proven and safe vaccine against the coronavirus will be used in Austria and that vaccination will not be mandatory.

Kurz said they have made progress in vaccine development and increasingly rapid testing methods are already available, so he says life could return to normal next summer after the coronavirus crisis.

According to the chancellor, the Austrian government will strive to give the people as much freedom as possible in addition to anti-epidemic measures, and will introduce only the restrictions that are absolutely necessary.
