The mortality rate of patients with coronavirus at the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Hospital is very high, according to a document in the possession of Népszava. The document indicates that the institution is the territorially competent place of care for the nursing home in Pesti út.
Since the outbreak, a total of 202 Covid-positive patients have been cared for at the Kőbánya facility, 60 of which have so far lost. Almost half of those who died later were transported from the homes of the elderly in Pest. The hospital death rate is 29 percent, while the overall Hungarian death rate is 12.2 percent, the newspaper writes.
Bajcsy still accepts patients with suspected coronavirus, although Cecília Müller, national medical director and Miklós Kásler, minister, have changed the procedure since May 8: St. László and Korányi have been treating moderate to severe patients since then. Népszava knows that 8 patients with covids entered Bakhcsy on Wednesday, and there are currently almost 120 suspected or confirmed infected patients with coronavirus in hospital wards, 24 of whom are residents of the social institution in Pesti út.
Népszava also writes that documents from the Bajcsy Hospital were requested as part of a police investigation into what happened at Pesti út’s home, and even, according to the newspaper, “there are rumors that the investigation has been extended to the hospital.”
Patients drown, so do we
A Covidian ward was established in early March at the Bajcsy-Zsilinszky Hospital. A nurse who worked there told Népszava:
Coronavirus patients drown and we drown under the mask and protective clothing. Provided protective equipment is available and usable. Although we are not even sure that what we are using really provides enough protection. Our spacesuit was weird. Among the masks and gloves he received, there was one that tore at first. The insulation is a plasterboard wall and a door, but it does not reach the ceiling.
The nurse’s report shows that the situation in the hospital was much worse in the first few weeks, where no one had any idea what to do after all.
There was no central instruction, everyone did what he thought would be good. The suspects were locked in multi-bed rooms and only two days later it became clear who had contracted the virus. Many tried to escape, others were furious, which we understood, but there was nothing we could do. The guards are now in charge of the order, he added.
The hospital staff’s evaluation only started randomly in late March after several people fell ill. On Tuesday, RTL News reported that two nurses removed their masks while they were working, which could have infected several workers in Bajcsy.
