The president of the Hungarian Tennis Association (HTA), Lajos Szucs, emerged from the letter, which reached Index’s editorial office.

The president of the Hungarian Academy of Sciences is justified by the fact that sponsorship revenue fell due to the internal conflict, the Hungarian-Ukrainian Davis Cup match was organized by the association without the participation of the state, in the amount of HUF 279 million. Its commercial creditors amount to more than a billion. Other commercial accounts payable also represent a charge of 150 million. None of the articles detailed what could have cost so much.
In previous years, Hungary also hosted ATP and WTA tournaments, although the top two players, Márton Fucsovics and Tímea Babos, stayed away from them last time, the Federation Cup final would have been here in April this year, which it was lost due to the coronavirus epidemic.
They wanted to move into this year’s WTA tournament in Debrecen in February, but couldn’t keep it there either, but their royalties will have to be paid even next year. The absence of the tennis tournament outraged many, especially since the board members were also not informed in time, the preliminary consultation on the situation was lost, so they could not even vote on anything. The presidency then began an economic review of the alliance.
Fidesz deputies, Lajos Szucs many attacks last year and the year before. The best Hungarian player, Márton Fucsovics, was the first to say that he did not want to cooperate with him. Secretary General Attila Richter resigned in early February after the WTA scandal.
MTSZ’s management was reviewed by the Finance Commissioner in March and April, established this debt.
In 2011, the MTSZ still had a budget of 110 million and seven employees, including two coaches. In 2017, the budget was already 4 billion and the device was 33 people. Tennis, incidentally, did not want to be included in the top 16 sports after the London Olympics, but was eventually pushed.
There was a lot of news about the association’s mismanagement, the Borsod member organization already submitted a report to the police in October 2018, the NAV was also investigated. Public money went to an offshore company, raising suspicions of a violation.
Three board members resigned
There was a board meeting at the MTSZ on Monday when three members (Farkas Bársony, János Dudik, Péter Gém) announced their resignation, and one of the deceased was surprised by the magnitude of the deficit. The alliance is still in quorum, with four of the remaining seven, although, according to our information, two more are considering resigning.
It is not yet known if there has been a police report on the matter. Szucs’ successor has long been inconsistent with Fidesz, but this debt will be hard to find someone to subscribe to.
Emmi, by the way, deducts a uniform 20 percent subsidy from all high-priority associations for the coronavirus epidemic.
