Katalin Novák, Secretary of State for Family and Youth Affairs, would facilitate and expedite the adoption of children, and will present a bill to Parliament on Tuesday.

According to the bill:

  • By adopting another child, it will be easier to examine the suitability of the adoptive parents;
  • Newly applying parents are no longer required to complete the 40-hour course;
  • After three months instead of the previous six, a child raised in a child protection system who is not interested in his blood parents at all will be adopted;
  • In case of irregular contact, the child will be adopted after eight months instead of the previous one;
  • Adoption planners also have a maximum of ten days off per year;
  • The largest age gap between adoptive parents and children will increase from forty-five to fifty years in order to adopt as many older children as possible.

According to Attila Fülöp, Emmi’s Secretary of State for Social Affairs, in two thirds of adoptions, children come from the child protection system.

As of January 1 of this year, various adoption incentives have been introduced, including the adoption fee, adoption grant and maternity support, writes MTI.
