The skate quarantined story was written by an 11-year-old Brazilian talent, Gui Khury, who first made the 1080-degree half-tube turn. What’s more, Khury broke a record of more than two decades, which means he wasn’t even alive when Tony Hawk made the 900 degree shift to date.
“Quarantine helped him a lot because while he was at school, he had less time to practice and always came home tired from school. Now he has more at home, eats better and has more time to exercise, “Ricardo Khury Filho, the father of the new record holder, told Reuters.
The 11-year-old athlete, during great practice, finally managed to land even after three full laps, firing into the air in the half tube. This trick has been a holy grail of skateboarding since Tony Hawk made the 900 degree turn, or 2.5 times, in 1999. Hawk considers that moment to be the most important achievement of his career, it became a historical trick at the age 31 years old.

In the 21 years that have passed since then, not even a dozen skateboarders have managed to repeat the 900, which is a good indication of how difficult it is to do this. However, in 2012, American Tom Schaar had already made a 1080 turn, but he was on a giant ramp that had been in the air for much longer than a normal half pipe.
Khury says that after the party, a large bowl of macaroni and cheese is already preparing to continue, and he also wants to make the 3,560-degree turn 3.5 times that no one has hitherto accomplished on a giant ramp.
Skateboarding will make its debut at the Tokyo Olympics, which was postponed between 2020 and 2021, between Olympic sports.
