In early February 2019, BKV sued the Russian Metrowagonmast (MWM), which is renewing cars running on the M3 metro line, because the company refused to pay the fine demanded by the capital’s transport company. The Russian manufacturer promised to renew the M3 cars for € 219.2 million, or around 69 billion forints at the time.

At the end of March, the claim for damages of BKV exceeded 23 million euros, excluding interest, due to the detection of new defects and vehicles lost during the repair, which is 8.1 billion HUF at the current exchange rate of 350 HUF, plus interest, which is not yet including loss of advertising revenue.

Of the total claim, the Russian company recognizes just 1.2 million euros (430 million forints), which is just 5 percent of the claim.

It was previously suggested that they would “pay in kind” for the modernization of the air conditioners. BKV and the city administration are demanding the payment of a HUF 6.8 billion fine in the lawsuit. However, the dispute is not progressing. BKV was looking for a new catch for the Russian manufacturer. The company must provide a guarantee under a contract signed in 2015. The current value of bank guarantees is almost 11 million euros (3.8 billion HUF), of which the transport company determined that the parking damage of 1.6 billion HUF’s could be claimed. According to Népszava, according to the lawyers, it would be a risky business to call the lump sum of the guarantee guarantee, since the Russian producer could claim the amount in a lawsuit and even file a claim for damages and the relationship with MWM could be damaged if request the bank guarantee. It will not meet its warranty obligations, such as repairs and replacements due to rust.
