At least two people lost their lives in Italy the first weekend when people were finally able to travel longer distances from their place of residence after two months of strict travel restrictions, MTI writes.

In the northern Italian Dolomites, near the Cortina d’Ampezzo ski resort, an avalanche swept through a 23-year-old Italian man who was skiing in the mountains with a small group, including his brother, on Saturday. The unfortunate skier, who was rolling with him in an avalanche of snow and ice for about 200 meters, was soon pulled out from under the snow, but was no longer able to save his life.

Also on Saturday, a man swept away by an avalanche was found dead on the Folgaria plateau in South Tyrol. The animal was not in trouble.

In Italy, ski resorts have been closed since the start of the coronavirus epidemic and remain closed. So those who were skiing now could only do so in an unmarked location.

In neighboring Switzerland, a ski hiker was killed in a high-altitude avalanche on Thursday and a climber on Friday. In Switzerland, the movement of people was not severely restricted due to the epidemic, so hiking was also not prohibited.
